Hi all,
Purple Scissors and I have been discussing what path SCEPCOP should take. Among his many proposals, are this new logo which changes the acronym in SCEPCOP. See below. What do you think? Does it sound better than the current one?
Cast your vote above.

I do not get to vote of course, since it is my proposal. However, just to clarify, it seems the poll is just about the change of name, not the entire screenshot. Scientific Committee for Exposing, Preventing and Correcting Organized Pseudoskepticism. Alternate to "Preventing" is "Protesting," but I thought that sounded as though we come from a weak position. The word "Organized" is in there because it fits the letters of SCEPCOP, and does not mean, of course, that we only challenge pseudoskepticism when it is organized.

You do get to vote since you're a member of this forum and of SCEPCOP. And so do I, though I must admit that I'm undecided.

Okay if you say so

Sounds good to me. What does Randi say?

Preventing and Correcting
Try "Protesting and Contesting"

Hi everyone,
Well since the vote in favor of the new acronym is 4 to 0, I guess we should change it.
Now the question is, which of the new acronyms to choose? Here are the two proposals.
Purple Scissor suggested:
"SCEPCOP - Scientific Committee for Exposing, Preventing and Correcting Organized Pseudo-Skepticism"
But I think this version should be shortened to: "Scientific Committee to Expose, Prevent and Correct Organized Pseudo-Skepticism" to eliminate the superfluous "ing" in every word.
Brian Josephson, the 1973 Nobel Prize Winner in Physics, suggested this one:
"SCEPCOP - Scientific Committee for the Exposure of Pseudo-Skeptical Criticism of the Paranormal"
I think "Criticism" sounds more civil and professional than "Cynicism" so it definitely looks like it'd be an improvement. However, I'm not sure "exposure" is the right word since it sounds like getting publicity. So I think this version should read: "Scientific Committee to Expose Pseudo-Skeptical Criticism of the Paranormal"
Anyway, I will be sending this thread into the General Discussions board and posting a new poll with the two new acronyms to choose from.
Stay tuned.
Thanks,
Vinstonas
